What I Learned in 2016

Your worth cannot be determined by others. Period.
When your dance teacher says there’s something special about the boy who will excitedly sit through your four hour dance recital, she’s right. Hold onto him.
Don’t make excuses for someone who doesn’t see how great you are.
I’m a lot happier person on eight or more hours of sleep.
God’s grace is bigger than my flaws and mistakes.
Just about the only thing that matters in life is being nice to people, doing what makes you genuinely happy and proud, and doesn’t hurt others. That’s it.
No one cares if you drink, no one cares if you don’t.
Baylor still sucks!
Basically always trust your gut, it will hardly let you down.
No one is as happy as their social media presents them to be
Expectations can lead to disappointment really easily. Just let life happen.
People change, and that’s not supposed to be feared. You don’t want your friends to be the same people they were five years ago.
The Bible is not the book I thought it was. In fact, it’s way more beautiful and interesting than I could have imagined. It’s not perfect, no, it comes from our perfect Heavenly Father, and it’s really fun to spend time exploring.
Moving 600 miles away teaches you who your real friends are real quick.
Life really is better at the lake.
You should NEVER have to dim who you are to make other people happy.
There truly is no place like Nebraska.
The only good part about long distance is that you can go four weeks without shaving. But that’s it. Everything else about long distance sucks.
Dance allows expression that words just can’t
There is so much power to be found in asking for help.
Real friends are the ones who see you at every high and every low, and still don’t think you’re too crazy.
Life is about those moments when you look around and just have to smile, wishing time could last just a little longer.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
They always say college is the best time of your life, and while they’re probably right, they fail to mention that it’s also the worst time of your life and you’re kinda stressed and questioning who you are and you’re tired all the time. But it’s also so fun and cool and the best time ever, and so much better than high school.
Just because people see things differently than you doesn’t mean you’re wrong and it doesn’t mean they’re wrong.

There is nothing quite like playing pitch with your boyfriend and his parents, and smiling ear to ear. It’s just happiness.
I know they say you learn a lot about yourself in college but like… you learn so much about yourself in college.

Obsessively worrying about gaining the Freshman 15 won’t actually determine if you do or don’t gain the Freshman 15.
God doesn’t change, even when you do.
Everyone loves, and feels loved, differently. Don’t be hurt when someone doesn’t love you the way you love them.

Sometimes you have to go to a Stars game with your best friends in the middle of finals, and it ends up being THE BEST NIGHT EVER.
You are so much braver than you give yourself credit for.
There’s so much growth to be found in just shutting up and listening to the people around you.
Anxiety is real, and it is hard, but there is help.

2016 was a crazy year, in just about every sense. I’ve learned a lot, laughed hard, and loved well. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me in 2017.
