Imperfect Faith, Perfect Jesus

A few days ago, when I was doing devotional, I suddenly felt very overwhelmed. I was reminded yet again how big our God is and how overpowering that can sometimes feel.
Maybe this is a feeling many of you have felt before, or maybe it’s just me, but I often feel very lost and confused during my walk with God. I try to get to know God by spending time in prayer and in the Word. But sometimes I feel so lost and confused as to who God is and what He wants. I look around and see so many different versions of Christianity, on campus and around this world. How am I supposed to know what the right version is?
Now, I’m not here to have a deep theological discussion about the ‘right’ interpretation of Christianity. I know that some denominations and beliefs are more Biblically based than others, and some are probably more “right” and “wrong”.
But that’s not what this blog post is about.
I was feeling this overwhelming anxiety, thinking “What if I have this wrong? What if interpreted this verse incorrectly? What does God want?” This anxiety was out of my control, all I could do was shout out to God, casting my anxieties on Him.
And I felt this sense of calm. The Holy Spirit was reminding that it doesn’t matter. I’m not sure any of us are ever going to get the

“right” version of Christianity, hard as we try, and it doesn’t matter! Because you know who does know the truth? JESUS!
This is not me trying to justify giving up on learning more about the Lord. But this desire to know more can’t come from a place of “getting it right” like I so often think it is. Spending time in the Word and in prayer should come out of a place of curiosity and praise. We want to know the Lord and what He wants for us, but don’t feel overwhelmed by getting every part of Christianity right. I don’t think any of us have that capability.
What a beautiful grace it is, that no matter what we do, no matter how imperfect we are, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that Jesus died for us. All we have to do is genuinely chase after the Lord and trust in what’s already been done.
Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.” // Matthew 21:24
