My Lincoln

Anyone who knows me knows that I love my hometown, Lincoln. I’ve been here my whole life, and even after traveling elsewhere, I still get excited coming home. As my last few weeks in Lincoln wrap up before I head to school, I wanted to devote this post to #myLNK (a popular hashtag among locals). I’ve listed some of my favorite spots in Lincoln below.

Hart Dance Academy

This will surprise few, but one of my favorite spots in Lincoln is my dance studio. The facility is absolutely beautiful, and I have about one thousand memories at Hart. If you’re looking for a dance studio that instills the love of dancing into its students and gives dancers lifelong lessons and friends, Hart is where you’re going to find that. There’s a certain magic to Hart that can only really be experienced, but please take the time to support one of Hart’s shows or check out the beautiful studios.

Taco Inn

Basically an extension of Hart, Taco Inn is the best Mexican restaurant there ever was. While my friends make fun of me for liking a place called “Taco Inn” I know that many of my friends in Lincoln will understand my obsession. There is no better, cheaper place to get a cheesy burrito, potato things, and cinnamon chips. There is no arguing about this. Taco Inn is the best.

The Mill & Goldenrod

Just a block or two away from Taco Inn and Hart, are two amazing local places to grab a snack. I love going to The Mill to study for hours, meet with friends, or get a granita (often all three at once). It’s also great going into The Mill because I know I will always see someone I know, without fail. Just a few doors down is the cutest, yummiest bakery ever, Goldenrod Pastries. Not only is it ˜aesthetic˜af (check out their Instagram),  but a lot of their pastries are gluten or dairy free, so you can feel a little less guilty when you treat yo’ self. I personally recommend the brownies or chocolate cupcake, but I have yet to be disappointed with anything I’ve tried at Goldenrod. Plus, they help me bump my Insta game, so I can’t complain.

Holmes Lake

While I love Nebraska, being landlocked is one of the few things that isn’t so great about the Cornhusker State. So, I love our little lake in Lincoln, Holmes Lake. The whole Holmes area is great, with a lake, walking trail, volleyball courts, baseball fields, a park and more. It’s a great place to go to unwind and relax. And don’t even get me started about a Nebraska sunset at Holmes Lake.

Honest Abe’s

I try to eat local whenever possible, and Honest Abe’s burgers make that easy. Not only does this place make me feel instantly cool when I walk in, but the food is damn good. They have a few burgers they keep year-round, and then they cycle out featured burgers. One time I got a queso burger and it absolutely have changed my life. They’ve aced the burger game, but they also have AH-MAZING fries and shakes. I personally recommend the parmesan truffle fries and birthday cake shake. And the best part is, the portions are huge, so you’ll have lunch for the next day!

Downtown & the Haymarket

Growing up, I didn’t spend a lot of time downtown, but as I’ve gotten older I have come to love downtown, especially the Haymarket district. I just love the streets and being surrounded by brick buildings filled with local businesses. There’s something just exciting but family in the air every day, and I’ve come to love the Haymarket. It’s great for a lunch during the day, a morning walk, or a night on the town.

Farmer’s Market

Every Saturday in the summer, the Haymarket district sets up a farmer’s market and it has become one of my favorite things to do in the summer, every single weekend. I love getting coffee and walking around to look at all the amazing local vendors. The farmer’s market has everything from produce to home decorations to pastries, and I never get sick of it.

The Oven

The Oven is a local Indian restaurant in town and it is so flippin’ good. I know Indian food can be super intimidating, but The Oven has something for everyone. I could probably survive off of their naan alone. Not only is their food delicious, but one of their venues is in the Haymarket, making me like it that much more. I also just have so many wonderful memories at the Oven, including many birthday dinners, dates, and my senior year prom.

Lazlo’s

Another delicious local restaurant that features a Haymarket location is Lazlo’s, an American-style brewery and grill that has a pretty extensive, diverse menu. I personally prefer their beer bread, the rainbow chicken, or anything with their honey mustard. All of their food is so dang yummy and I can’t think of a time I would say no to Lazlo’s, because something there is bound to sound delicious. Lazlo’s is also home of many of my important memories, birthday meals, awkward dates, and homecoming dinners.

Memorial Stadium

I could not write this post without featuring Lincoln’s pride and joy, the home of Husker football, Memorial Stadium. On game days, Memorial Stadium is the third largest city in Lincoln, and I think that fun fact perfectly illustrates how much pride we put on our football team. I have made countless memories at Memorial Stadium, since I’ve been attending games since before I could talk, and as I get older I just appreciate every chance I can go to the stadium even more. It’s loud and red and emotional and there is no place like Nebraska in those moments before the Huskers take the field.

Nebraska State Capitol

I think the capitol building in Lincoln is so beautiful and I don’t visit it as often as I should. It’s a signature part of the skyline of Lincoln and rightfully so. It’s a beautiful building that sticks out among the rest, literally and metaphorically. If you have never visited the building I highly recommend checking out and just walking around. There are also tons of beautiful, nooks and crannies that will amp up your Instagram game.

These are just a few of my favorite spots around Lincoln, but I could probably go on and on about all of the beautiful and cool areas in Lincoln. What are your favorite spots in Lincoln? Comment below!
