Steve is definitely onto something with those Nebraska sunsets.
A few nights ago I had the absolute pleasure of listening to Steve Dosskey at the first YoungLife club of the school year.
Let me tell you a little about Steve. Everyone loves Steve. Like, I mean, everyone. The reason everyone loves Steve is because he loves God so much, that it almost literally shines out of him. So when Steve was introduced, everyone shut their mouths and listened, because they knew it was gonna be good.
And it was.
It was that type of good that left me with a lump in my throat just because what Steve was saying was so genuine, beautiful, and true. Steve talked about everything there is to be thankful for. He talked about God’s favorite gift to him: Nebraska sunsets. He was so thankful and happy, he was shaking with passion and excitement.
It made me think of all God’s gifts I have to be thankful for. So for these things, let me say thank you:
Dance. This won’t surprise anyone. But I’m so thankful for the sport and the community it’s given me. Lately it’s been hitting a lot me that this is my last year at Hart. I’ve already cried three times about the end of this part of my life, and it’s only September. But seriously, dance has been the biggest blessing in my life. It’s given me a work ethic, passion, and self confidence. The friends I’ve made at Hart are beautiful irreplaceable. Let me say thank you.
Great nights with my friends. The past year I’ve learned that when it comes to friends, it’s definitely quality over quantity. I don’t have that many friends, but dang, they’re amazing. One of my favorite memories happened this past spring when I went mini golfing with some of my friends. We just joked around a lot and ended the day with ice cream, so I couldn’t really ask for more. But a lot of my moments with friends are simple, and just include a lot of movies that go unwatched because we end up talking through them. Let me say thank you.
Football. I just love football. Like, love it. If I could spend every night at a game, I would die happy. I live for LSE, Husker, and TCU football. It’s the electric atmosphere and the unmatched passion, both from players and fans. I’ve lost my voice screaming for the boys of fall and their hard work often leaves me full of happiness, win or lose. Let me say thank you.
Passion. Nothing in this world that gives me more faith in humanity than seeing someone so overcome with passion that they can’t even put into words what it means to them. Watching someone else be excited just gets me excited. Let me say thank you.
A good book. My favorites include The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? And Other Concerns, and Meg Cabot’s All-American Girl. I don’t get to read much but when I do, I make sure it counts. Books offer a new perspective, a new place, a new person to meet. Those beautiful passages that take your breath away? Let me say thank you.
The night sky in the country, a.k.a. multiple shooting stars in one night. Do I need to say more? Let me say thank you.
So, thanks Steve. For loving God and helping others see all that there is to be thankful for.
