Thankful for Abby who watches all the Buzzfeed videos I send her

Last night, before bed, while twenty minutes deep into what was supposed to be a five-minute Buzzfeed check, I found a video that I absolutely fell in love with. In the two part video, two exes ask each other some pretty intense questions.

It was so beautiful, and I found myself crying–ok, more like sobbing–in bed, and hysterically texting my friend Abby, “I’M SOBBING PLEASE WATCH THIS BUZZFEED VIDEO.”

The video encompasses why I love the beautiful, messy lives we live.

People are the most complex and beautiful creatures!!!!! We are so emotionally intricate and capable, and while we have the ability to be so hurt by people, we also have the ability to love them and forgive them. In the video, you see two exes who were left devastated after their relationship, but then they sit there and laugh and cry. They’re pretty vulnerable. This guy had cheated on this girl, and they were sitting there, two years later, laughing and admitting that they missed each other.

I know it may seem weird, but it amazes me and assures me that humans can do this.

It reminds me that that even the most “emotionless” people have deep and complicated feelings too, and that can’t be forgotten because their emotions aren’t worn on their sleeves.

But more importantly, it reminds me that we forgive. Sometimes this means people go back to their crappy exes or continue to let people hurt them, but it also means that you can screw up and there’s still hope. We all hurt people we don’t want to, and hopefully, with a little time, they can find the room in their hearts to forgive. I truly believe in the saying “Time heals all wounds.” Or, at least, “Time sure does help.” The love and memories you have with someone else don’t have to be lost or ruined.

I truly believe the only reason we are on this earth is to love every person we meet. Yes, every. Single. Person. Even the really hard ones (we all have them).  And the good news is that God gives us the unbelievable, beautiful, complex ability to love, to hurt, to forgive, and to love again.

“Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”” // ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:17‬
